buyer arrange courier

I've seen this on a few listings of late(looking for a new bike frame)
where the seller is happy to ship but states the buyer is to arrange the courier
now I cant thnk what the reason for this is?
what benefit is there for the seller?
trying to avoid and responsibility for damage in shippings?

None that I can think of.
They will still have to pack the bike and wait in for the courier to collect it, and they will still be liable if it gets lost or damaged en-route to the buyer.

I guess they think that they shrug off responsibility for damage in transit, I posted about a dinner service yesterday where the seller had been happy for the buyer to arrange a courier.
If there's damage or the buyer isn't happy, then Paypal or ebay can't refund the initial delivery costs, if it wasn't part of the transaction, so the buyer would be down both delivery & return charges to return. That would probably put a lot of people off returning something unless it was a really expensive item.

I had this the other way around last week.

Sold something that was collection only but the first I hear from the buyer was to tell me to wait in all day friday as they had sent a courier and could I pack the item up...

My reply had to be no as the reason for collection was that I couldn't work out how to pack it, it weighted a ton and was a very odd shape. it would have just gone clean through a cardboard box and I had nothing else that would hold it.

I was very shocked though that they didn't even ask if it was ok just ordered it and asked me to stay in..

Normally though I would sort out the courier as at least I can get it sorted around my day and also if anything happens to the item I know who to yell at..lol

Probably because they'd rather sell it as a collection only so they don't have to mess about posting it.. But to expand their chances of selling it they'll ship as long as the buyer arranges collection.
