2 weird laptop issues....

Hi guys,

Hope you can help with this.

Emachine E728 on windows 7

The laptop is less than a month old and has two strange issues.

1. When on mains power, if you shut down the computer, it shuts down and within 15 seconds it will restart itself. Shut it down again and it will just restart again. It only does this on mains power and shuts down and stays shut down fine when on battery only??

2. If I allow the computer to go to sleep through inactivity for a while, when I press the power button to bring it back to life, it comes up with the same screen you get when pressing f8 on startup. It says windows did not shut down properly. I select start normally, and it does and works fine.??

Any ideas as it's driving me mad.

Thanks in advance...:D

if less than a month old -- I would seriously suggest allowing eMachines to resolve the issues -- esp. with regards to 1st problem as that seems most likely hardware-related . It's under warranty.

    Hiya,

Thanks, but I'd rather try to resolve it myself first without going through the palava of sending it back etc....:D

For the first issue, take a look through the BIOS settings and see if the power configs make sense.

Many have a setting that causes the machine to boot as soon as power is applied (intended to be used for unattended servers that are supposed to be on all the time). Obviously that should be turned off in your case if currently enabled.

    Thanks,

Looked in the bios and could not find anything to do with power settings in there??

Don't know about your 2nd problem but the first one sounds like the power options.
In your power options you will see that you can choose what the power buttons do
when on ac and when on battery. See what it is set to on ac.

if all the basic checks look normal, get it looked at under warranty...it may sound like a nause, but if there's going to be power issues with a laptop, nip it in the bud or else you could end up looking at a fair whack of dosh :(

I'd do this too - it might seem like a hassle sending it back, but it saves you worrying about what might be wrong with it :money:
