I want a Sony Bravia 32" LCD TV, but ...

Options
Does anyone know what the difference is between the "S" models and the "V" or "U" models? This letter comes in the middle of the product number. It seems to make a difference to the price!

Wanting to get something in the sales, so any help on this would be appreciated.

And ... does anyone have a notion of the cheapest price, including delivery?

Well, am looking about myself for something similar. I think I may stay away from Sony as other makes are allegedly as good (e.g. Samsung). I would certainly recommend finding out what the codes mean, although Sony aren't exactly forthcoming with the info.

A quick google for "Sony Bravia U Series" gave me this link ... http://reviews.ebay.co.uk/Sony-Bravia-Model-Numbers_W0QQugidZ10000000001216097

    Regards

p.s. please do post your best prices and deals. I'm looking for 32" with Freeview. That's about my requirement!
  • I know what you mean about other makes, although for what its worth my opinion is that I would not necessarily agree with that.

Up until about four years ago we had had a succession of Sony televisions. We then purchased a large Loewe tv for the lounge. I have always had a problem with the sound quality not being distinct enough (although my OH does not have the problem to the same degree) and it has been repaired twice, even though we were advised that this make rarely goes wrong.

We also purchased a Humax television for the kitchen in 2006 - the first one would not switch on, and the second had an intermittant blip of the sound and picture. We did get our money back (in both instances we were within the 14 days) and we are now back to a Sony 20", which replaced an old Sony which blew in a thunder storm.

By the way, many thanks for the review - it answered a lot of questions!

Ah I see there are 2 threads, here is the other one....

watch the tv's you are interested in side by side and pick the one you prefer, any good independant tv shop will be able to help you with this exercise.

  • Think we are going to plump for the KDL32V2000 which comes in more expensive than the KDL32S2000.

The cheapest I have found has been Empire Direct (and we can take a trip out and collect to save £30 delivery charge). Empire will price match their on-line price instore.

We are presently trying to see if John Lewis wil price match on this. Their price is considerably more, but they give a five year guarantee on the product, so if we can get them to price match and give us the five year guarantee we will be reasonably happy.

Anyone know of anywhere which sells it cheaper than £949.99? Have looked on the Internet and one or two prices are around the same, but then the delivery bumps it up to nearer £1000.

That's a great price for the model you are talking about, it's the one we have and I am really happy with it, just been looking in the window (honest) of the local Sony dealer and it's in there at £1199.

There might be some package savings ( if you need a DVD recorder or surround sound) to be had, but they sometimes don't come in till January, might be worth asking??

We too have this TV, bought on a price match with JL in late November. I am thrilled with it. Check out the forums on https://www.avforums.co.uk for further details on optimum tuning/settings etc.

Who did you get JL to pricematch with and do they need to be near JL?
  • the difference in letters suffixing model numbers etc is usually for the benefit of the retailer to make it seem that the model is exclusive to them in the eyes of the consumer,as in "hey look you cant buy this elsewhere you know" and your reply should go somink like this " yes i can with a P rather than a Q :D in reality the two TV,s are xactly the same
