Best deal for gas & electric? New user from overseas

Help! I've just moved from overseas and need gas & electricity but can't use the comparison sites as I don't have a previous supplier. Does anyone have any tips on who has the best deals?

We're a pretty average 4 person family (2 kids under 10) living in a 3 bed semi in Kent if it helps

to be honest Helen, unless you are in a hotel or similar accomodation then you will have a previous provider, just no info about useage. for accurate figures about useage my personal opinion is to make sure you have as much info as possible about what you have paid and what that was for, no harm in phoning who you are paying now and asking what tarriff you are on and what the standing charges and unit charges are.

not easy but not imposible either
Who remembers when X Factor was just Roman suncream?
  • Thanks for that, but yes we are in temporary accommodation so not paying anyone, (well my mum but thats just to put up with us!)
Think I've found a deal thru USwitch with EDF, their Fixed Saver til 2012 seems the best deal for us, and gives us the chance to see how energy prices go back here in the UK.
    Thanks again

    1. When you move to the property, you'll need to first accept the current suppliers ... then you can start the switching process if you want.

    2. You can use a comparison site even without a current supplier Choose any if there is no default. The comparison site will list all the suppliers and all the tariffs - you should look for the chreapest annual cost.
Ignore any suggested savings as that will not be applicable, but the annual costs shown will all be correct. Choose the cheapest (unless you have a reason not to)

Part of the Furniture 10,000 Posts Name Dropper Rampant Recycler
As above but just invent annual consumption in kWh - say 20,000kWh gas and 5,000kWh electricity.

You can then quickly vary those amounts 15,000/4000, 25,000/6000 etc etc and a pattern will emerge.
