Cavity walls or external insulation?

On a proposed extension, which will be rendered, does anyone in the know have advice on my question?
There is obviously the space saving consideration without cavity walls, and the opportunity of using the insulation as it is being rendered, but there must be more to it - and of course, cost?
Any advice much appreciated.
