I switched and lost out!

I wanted to warn users about Switching energy provider. I had a capped rate with EON that ended a couple of months ago. I used USwitch to get a better quote and British Gas was the best saving me a few hundred a year. It took a couple of months to changeover and lo and behold I have now been victim of British Gas' price rises and should have stayed with my previous supplier. As I am tied into this package for a year I am now stuck! I feel let down and cheated. Any advice greatly received!!

Switchers Beware!!

Obvious question is why didn't you switch to a fixed/capped rate. It was only a matter of time before somebody else increased their prices.

It is also likely EON (and the others) will shortly increase prices so will not seem as bad then
  • If it's a huge difference like it was for me just pay the exit fee and move to a fixed.

OP, EON will be putting up their prices shortly as sure as eggs is eggs.
As asked , why did you not go for another capped rate rather than Websaver x?
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • Have to agree with the others - if you're going to move, you need to choose a fixed rate.

I've just paid an "exit" fee to get out of my SP contract and have moved to a fixed rate with Ovo - http://www.ovoenergy.com/our-energy/ and really can't wait until switching date!

  • At the time I didn't find a better capped/fixed and didn't think! Good advice about paying the exit fees and fixing...I shall investigate. Thanks all for replying.
