Beko fridge burns house down

If my Beko fridge freezer catches fire before the guys get around to modifying it will I still be covered by my house insurance??? they don't seem to want to ask this question on the TV. My understanding of insurance makes me think that because I am aware of the problem I accept the risk by using the appliance.

If you have received individual advice about your fridge, that if you continue to use it, it could catch fire, then yes your Insurers could turn down a claim for fire damage. This would be on the basis that you did not take precautions to prevent the loss from occuring.

In this situation, you might also having difficulty in making any legal claim against Beko or the retailer.

I would have thought that Beko would have advised you not to use the fridge and of the consequences if you continued to do so. The Beko information sent to you would have been put together with advice from their lawyers. Hence comment about difficulty in making a legal claim.

Suggest that if there is a definate fire risk, that you consider not using it.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

" You can continue to use your fridge freezer, but as with any electrical product, if you notice anything different please contact us."

I would not use the appliance as you have been notified that it is dangerous. therefore you need to confirm this or not use it.
The reason I say this is because a fault which has been adress must be checked by an engineer to verify that the applance is safe. to use the appliance to save some money for the sake of food, is neither safe nor practicle.

to put it another way, you know it may be dangerous and it hasnt been checked, so why would you leave the bomb ticking when you can have it repaired and made safe.
