Attaching trellis to a wall

I'm sort of planning to do both, lostinrates. I'm after buying a prickly berberis or two to plant on one side - it grows to approximately 10 feet which would be ideal.
The problem with our garden is that it's lower than the surrounding grassy area (don't know what bright spark thought that would be a good idea) so we occasionally get kids running past & the odd dog walker & they can see right into our gardenI thought the trellis would act as a sort of instant 'barrier' & give us a bit of privacy & security. The berberis is more for security, but once it grows it will also offer some 'dappled' privacy, if that makes sense, I can't think of the word I'm after
Plus it's a thing of beauty, with gorgeous red leaves, so it will look good too.
Thanks again for your input.'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -
I woke up in the middle of last night thinking about this trellis business
Would I need to screw through the trellis/batten/brick or would having the battens negate the need to screw through the brick as well??
Apologies if this is a daft question...'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -

There's probably a few different ways to do this but I would put the battens on the back of the trellis first and then fix them to wall as a unit.
A screw/nail going just into the batten and trellis would not be very long or wide and could not support much weight.0
