i then go back and select that im a curent npower customer on signonlline 20 and it offers me £428.95

talk about shafting your customer.....
how can their be such a difference.. perhaps because im a current customer???

You must have made a mistake somewhere as price is based on your location rather than your current provider.

British Gas made £740,000000 last year and thats still not enough asked why the latest increase the spokesman said they need to invest in the future I think we all need to be able to keep warm in the present. B-stards.

Where did you get that figure from....
British Gas being the biggest needs to invest money.. no investment, no energy in years to come......

For the foreign compnaies, they cudnt give 2 tosses about 20ys down the line.

The problem is here, is people dont realise how much profit British Gas make off a customer a month.... for that £100 ddeb for gas pe month, the profit is around £6 a month.

the news doesnt report it like this as the news story would not be SENSATIONAL.

Check the units rates for Go Fix 6 when specifying both providers. Surely the rate can't change? Doesn't make any sense.

Were you telling uSwitch you were spending £34 when you were saying you were an npower customer? I assume that the British Gas tariff you're on and the npower tariff you told uSwitch you were on the second time have different unit rates? I think that as £34 will buy you more electricity depending on which tariff you're on, by saying that you spend £34 on a tariff you're not actually on, uSwitch will assume you use more or less electricity than you actually are using.

Anyway, does anyone know what npower Go Fix 6 online management is like? I have just applied to switch from British Gas due to the price hike, but I've always liked their online management.

nPower online account management is very poor compared to that of British Gas, and to add to that, they only issue bills every six months. I keep track of my own usage so I know where I stand, but its a very poor show indeed.

npower's sign online 20 electricity unit rates are: 14.493p per kWh and 10.301p per kWh above 728 kWh p.a

British Gas' standard electricity unit rates are: 25.797p per kWh and 12.558p per kWh above 720 kWh p.a

If you're spending £34 with npower you're using a lot more electricity than £34 would get you from British Gas, so uSwitch is giving you a higher annual spend as you're telling it you're using more electricity. Try doing the searches again using your annual consumption kWh, or say you've no details handy for your usage and fill in the details of your household, and uSwitch will give you the same calculated annual price from both.

Thanks for the info Swipe. That's a shame, but I guess I'd rather spend a bit of time each month making sure I'm keeping on top of my usage than pay British Gas an extra £200 a year for nicer online management and monthly bills.

Centrica is the company that does all the pipelines and upgrades, delivers it through the system and to the point of where your gas meter is, that is where Centrica stops and your supplier takes over. Every company regardless of who supplies your gas has to purchase it off Cenrica. So actually British Gas IS ripping us off. The price of gas has remained stable over the last few years - there is no justification for these price rises and I doubt that the regulator will do much about either - despite their howls of 'we will investigate'!
