DVD HD Recorder advice

Hi,

I'm looking for an HD DVD recorder for occasional recording use. Therefore I don't need anything too fancy.

I have:

Samsung LE40R51B TV - http://www.pricerunner.co.uk/sound-and-vision/vision/tv/350578/details
NTL cable television - but hoping to upgrade to HD when NTL *finally* do it.

I bought Samsung HD recorders a few months ago, but they all had poor picture quality so were returned.

Any suggestions?! Thanks for any help!

  • I have LiteOn 5025, and very pleased with it I am too. It's so convenient, not having to bother with a set of VHS tapes. the best feature is the ability to start recording a programme, then you can start to play/watch it while it is recording ahead of you. This means you can flash through the ads, or not have to wait for the end of a programme before you start watching.

No problems with it at all, except it can be a bit more sensitive than my old DVD player when it comes to playing my sons' DVDs which are slightly marked, and refuse to play them. It would be handy to be able to record two programmes at once, and it would be nice to be able to record a programme and watch a different recording at the same time, but you can't. You can get these features on pricier machines but overall, I am delighted with my LiteOn and I think I got a bargain at £150, and it was down to £130 when I last looked in Currys.
  • what is the LiteOn's HD like for noise Marty,im thinking of getting a LiteOn 250 gb HD Dvd-Recorder machine but want to know if the HD is quiet or not.

the one ive seen is £179 which is very good value for a 250 gb machine but if its noisy i wont order it.

do you know if the LiteOn has the seagate HD in it as my LG 80 gb machine is pretty much quiet.
  • Just a very faint hum from the hard disk, Buster, nothing intrusive. You can only just hear it when eveything else is silent. Don't know who makes the hard disk though I'm afraid.

Do you really need a DVD Player/Recorder?

Why not look at the Humax range of PVR very good reviews and priced according to HD size.

Buster I'm looking to buying the same machine. The best price seems to be at E buyer or CCL (Both £180)
Which Magazine puts LiteOn in second place for reliability (just below Sony)
I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!
