What are the best and worst basics/value/smartprice own brand products out there?

My partner loves the Tesco value ready Salted crisps - they are his favourite crisps out of all the brands! Really tasty and cheap.
the Tesco Value toilet paper is not worth it though.
Sainsburys Basics mozarella is really good.
Tesco value grated cheddar bags and the Tortilla chips from Tesco Value are nice too - melt the cheese in top!0 -
Just wanted to add- on the rising price of value tissues.
I had to buy new tiisues today, Tesco's 68p version now seems to have increased from 150 tissues to 225 tissuesStill more expensive then I'd like but works out to around 46p per 150 if you do the maths so not as terrible as it was.

I love Sainsbury Value crisps - only 68p per pack.0

Tesco market value stir fry vegetables are absolutely revolting. It seemed like an amazing deal — £1.30 for 750g, good mix of veg — but it smells like wee and tastes even worse. Must be the weird seasoning. Even copious amounts of chilli sauce couldn't cover it up
On the positive side, Asda's smartprice Greek-style salad cheese is incredible. Crumbles easily and tastes amazing. 77p for 200g isn't too bad either0 -
Sainsburys Basics mozarella is really good.
Agree, it's fab :T
My favourite value products:
Tesco: ketchup, pasta, juice, crisps, bourbon biscuits, frozen veg, golden syrup, midget gems, cat litter, printer paper
Co-op: cornflakes, tissue, ginger biscuits, orange juice, long grain rice
Asda: peanut butter, pasta, rice
Sainsburys: cat litter, printer paper, sweet popcorn
Last 2 I rarely shop in anymore as not easy to get too, so don't know much about their value range.0 -
Can I add some of the new (rebranded) Morrison's Value stuff?
Not worth buying - teabags. Too weak, need at least two for a decent cuppa, otherwise you're drinking "baby tea".
Worth buying - tinned peas.
I have some kidney beans and tinned tomatoes to try in my chilli on Wed so will see how they turn out.
The frozen tuna pasta bake I'm in two minds about. It was edible, but the white sauce was more congealed than anything, and because I don't have a microwave, had to do it in the oven and some of the pasta was hard from being baked, though I have had that with more expensive brands as well."Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."

Just wanted to add my recent experiences to this thread:
Asda Smart Price corned beef - awful and totally gut wrenching, wouldn't feed it to a dog.
Basics/Smart Price/Value brown sauce - found all three of these to be very nice and quite fruity - amazing value at 30p a bottle.
Basics toilet tissue - perfectly adequate for its intended purpose.
Basics/Smart Price custard creams - both very nice and the Asda ones are on a roll back at the moment.
Basics/Smart Price rice krispies - truly appalling, really soft and salty, not even good enough for a hamster.
Morrisons Value tea - it's like drinking a mug of hot water and milk that had a quick wave from a friendly tea bag that went by on the bus. They just never actually got to meet each other.0 -
A couple to add to the list:
Morrisons Worth Buying.
Value Lasagne Sheets. As good as branded and make a nice basic lasagne
Value Biological Laundry Power: £1.50 for box Very good, as good as store own brand.
Value tinned chopped tomatoes. Fine to use for sauces and soups.
ASDA worth buying
SP Dolly Mixtures not healthy but they are sweets. Taste fine.0 -
Tesco value brand cottage cheese is revolting i tried it recently and had to throw it away ! It was so liquid i couldnt spread it on my bread i had to pour it on !! Urrrrggggghhh !:(0

I've just had some ASDA SmartPrice instant custard - the cheapest thing they sell at just 6p - and it was actually very good! The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0
