I take on board people's feedback and change my approach.

What have you changed as a result of all the feedback you have been given on this board over the months? Anything? Come on, give us some hope there is a point to it all....

Approach employers and ask for feedback on why you were rejected then you may be able to improve next time x

As difficult as it may seen. Only attend interviews for jobs that interest you. Desperation does come across in interviews. So selective pick and put your focus and energy into these. Not easy. As you'll feel like a boxer picking himself up off the ring floor after a bruising encounter, when rejection strikes.

My other tip is take temp work or contract work. Once in the door door a really good job. Be reliable. Punctual. And so on. As it will get you noticed.

I love the posts assuming people are actually getting interviews or offers of temp work and basing replies on that.

I've got a shed load of experience, have a good tweakable CV (has been commented on by the few people to bother contacting me) but I'm not even getting interviews or calls from the dozens of agencies I've been in touch with. I've applied for about 120 jobs and had 4 interviews, apparently I was just pipped at post for all of them (which I suppose is a little silver lining).

It's very hard, although I don't get enraged I do get very despondent and I'm very stressed which is now manifesting itself in the form of nightmares. I have a few people who I am very honest with about my situation and they have been a massive support. I do wonder though how long I can keep going without having some sort of breakdown.

I guess you just have to keep going, I've had a hard week this week, been little worth me applying for and does send me downwards a little. Seeing other people in the same situation on here definitely helps as I have no-one in my circle of friends and acquaintances who are unemployed at the moment.

    It's a cliche but chin up :o

Try not to get enraged as it's just a negative emotion and waste of your energy. Easy to say I know, but I am speaking from experience. I start a job on Monday, more than 3 months after I left my last job on voluntary redundancy. I had a few real setbacks when I first started applying for work, due to lack of experience in interviews, and also possibly setting the bar a little too high. It really got me down, but I stopped being picky and applied for anything I was qualified for. I didn't approach agencies but things did turn round pretty quickly. Four weeks ago when I signed on I was in despair of even getting interviews, but 2 weeks later I had 3 interviews in one week, and have been invited to another 3 which I've not attended due to getting employment. My job is only until the end of March, the money isn't much (though better than Jobseekers Allowance by quite a distance!), but I hope something permanent will come out of it.

You need to try to stay positive, and take on board any feedback you get. It is demoralising when you don't even get a reply, though for me I actually prefer that to the soul destroying "you have not been selected for interview" email - I found those much more difficult to handle.

Emmzi, do not adopt the misconception that I have not assimilated all the feedback that all the very kind people have given me on these boards over the months. Believe me, I HAVE.

Unfortunately, despite all my best efforts in acting on all this advice, I am still unemployed and still fed up with life on jobless Merseyside.

To 925dancer: I know, I totally agree with you. Some people on here seem to be under the grave misconception that, with just a few tweaks of your CV etc. etc., you can automatically improve your chances of interview. Sadly, in this rubbishy climate, it just doesn't happen.

Too many applicants chasing so few jobs, too many agencies lying to candidates and messing them around left right and centre etc etc.

I just wonder will this accursed recession EVER end!

I have often thought that if you don't get a reply then there maybe other jobs the employer may consider you for in the future. It does get to me that when spending money and time going to an interview and the employer cannot be bothered to write or let you know how you have got on.

I know. And sometimes you have to chase them and chase them for feedback. Terrible times.
