It depends what tariff you are on and what time you call. See
http://www.bt.com/choices/ and click on BT Together0 -
If the place your in has previously had a BT line then no, if it hasn't they'll charge you £125. My girlfriend I just moved into a new build and although all the telephone points were there, there has never been an active line so we had to stump up the cash.0

Most residential customers are on BT Together Option 1 (£10.75/month if you opt for online only billing and pay monthly by DD).loulou41 wrote:I am sure if bt charge a connection fee like 18185? hanks
For most calls on that tariff, BT now charges a 3p 'call set-up fee' (e.g. a call to any UK 01/02 number between 6am and 6pm Monday to Friday costs 3p 'call set-up fee' plus 3p per minute).
18185 charges 4p connection and 0p per minute for the same call.
However, BT still charges the flat rate 5.5p for a call of up to 60 minutes to a UK 01/02 number evenings and weekends (i.e. no additional 'call set-up fee').Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
(Heavy irony...) How can BT 'manage' all the additional expense of having the duplication of 'call set up fees' in the 'day' and then operating a completely different tariff the rest of the time? Those poor fellas at Ofwhatshisname (more irony) must do a hell of a job keeping call charges clear and transparent for cutomers mustn't they?Heinz wrote:BT now charges a 3p 'call set-up fee' (e.g. a call to any UK 01/02 number between 6am and 6pm Monday to Friday costs 3p 'call set-up fee' plus 3p per minute).

I'm pleased to say I'm not 'in business' and am just a user looking (and, most of the time finding) the cheapest way to do things.Milarky wrote:(Heavy irony...)
