where to get Adobe? (can't download it)

Hallo

At the moment I've got a really old version of Adobe (I think it's 5 point something..) and I'm finding it won't open some of the files I want to look at on the web.

I know if you go to the Adobe website you can download the newest version for free, but the problem is my broadband connection's not really up to downloading 50MB!

Does anyone know if it's available as a cd anywhere? Or is there another way I can get hold of it.

This is only 13MB and is way better than Adobe to do exactly the same:

Ask round your friends for anyone who has bought a recent PC magazine. Most magazines include free DVD with software various, and nearly always include a copy of latest Adobe PDF reader

use a download manager like flashget so you can resume the download if it cuts out

How does it manage to do anything if it struggles with a 50MB download?

Thanks for the replies, people. I think I will keep a look out for computer magazines with a cd on the cover which contains the latest version.

alanrowell I can surf the net, send emails, etc but I can't watch videos or download large-ish things. If I want, say, a podcast of a radio programme I go and use a library computer and put the podcast on my memory stick and then bring it back and put it on my own computer..

I don't have a landline (BT wanted to charge £130 just for connection, as my flat is/was a new-build) so I just use a dongle. For the most part it's fine.

Am I missing something here, why don't you do the same for Adobe?

don't any of the neighbours have wifi? pretty sure one will have and will let you share their connection if you offer to split the service charge.
Even if they won't, they'll probably download Adobe Reader for you.

I thought of that but there is some technical reason why that won't work, - Adobe has got its own download manager apparently

File hippo will let you download the installation files, so no need for the download manager

Foxit reader and pdf exchange viewer are worth considering
