Have a look here, then post back with any queries.

If you already use a podcast client (AKA a podcatcher), please post which one you use.

If you have an ipod then itunes is the obvious podcatcher to use at the start.

  • "Juice" is one "podcasting client". It is also free.

    http://juicereceiver.sourceforge.net/

    Try that.

Alternatively click on the link on the page I think you you were looking at http://prairiehome.publicradio.org/about/podcast/ underneath the podcast URL.

There are several ways to listen to podcasts
    1) Manually go to the web site and click the listen to the show (or similar) link
    2) Manually go to the web site and click the download (or similar) link. Download an MP3 file to your Hard drive and listen to the show using windows media player or similar.
Or transfer the file to your MP3 player and listen on that.
    3) Use a podcasting client, also know as a podcatcher.

The big snags with method 2 are
    a) you have to remember to do this, b) keep track of what you have listened to and c) delete the old files once you have listened to them

This is where you use a podcatcher. As I'm just careful has said, Juice should suit your needs.

    Juice will:
Automatically download podcasts from prariehome or wherever.
Put them in a directory on your hard drive.
    Provide a playback mechanism/ list.
Keep track of what you have listened to.
    Delete old podcasts.

    Instructions are here

It sounds difficult at first but it's quite simple once you get into it.

Thankyou vey much, both of you - you have taken such trouble to help me in non-techie language, much appreciated. It'll be about ten days before I have time to sort this now.

    No mp3 things, either.

I promise to report back, after Antiques Fair and Bastille Day flit.

Yes,that is the link - wonderful Garrison Keillor, reporting from 'Lake Wobegon the town where all the women are strong, all the men are good looking, and all the children are above average. ...'
    Pure joy.
