In my pc I have a 160gig slave drive. couple of weeks ago, it was prompting for a Disk scan repair, it then got to the point where My Computer would not see the drive, although installed on the system, and reported to be working normally in Sys Admin. sometimes a fresh reboot would fix the problem although, at this point I was already concerned that something wasnt right.
But ultimately, today although it is shown in My Computer, if I try to access the drive, it announces that it isnt formatted. (horror), Ive slowly come to terms that all my music, photos and programmes installed on this drive are now lost. I reluctantly agreed to allow it to reformat. But even this keeps failing in Windows. If I do a quick format, it stops almost instantly, on a full format, it gets to the end of the format, then fails.
anyone got any solutions or is it scrap metal now?

It's a goner together with your data, unless you're willing to spend big ££ with a professional data recovery firm.0

Heres a Shock to my System, for some unknown reason, even after numerous attempted format failures, my HD has come back to life includidng all the files and folders. I am currently backing them all up, just to be on the safe side, but alas for now I have my HD back. Im still confused as to what happened. I am also convinced that it will do it again at some point.
A long while back I seem to remember my old PC got infected with a virus that literally, killed the HD boot disk. I at first thought it was a major Hardware failure, until it happened to two seperate pc's. shuffling around I discovered that my HD had been renamed in the BIOS settings causing it to "lose itself". I assumed BIOS was safe from infections, but apparantl not.
Which makes me question wether the current problem I am having is somehow Virus related. What do you think folks?
