Post delivered to wrong street

Not really a vent or anything just more a question....

I know this has happened in the past too but the reverse as in my post has gone elsewhere.
For some very odd reason there are two streets in my town with the same name - well actually its kind of the same street that goes on for 2 miles however each end of the 2 mile road both have the same numbers! (do not ask me how thats even possible) The only difference is the postcode I am XX20 they are XX10.

Needless to say a lot of my post goes missing (i assume delivered to the other house)
I have today recieved mail for this other person with the other postcode and I don't really know how to word it, I was thinking if I just put not known at address it will just get returned to sender, so what should I put? Just 'delivered to wrong house' or something - the letter looks important so I want to make sure it gets to where it should be

Surely though something is seriously wrong with the address system if there is 2 streets (or 1 massive street) with the same name and the same house numbers at either end of the road?

I sometimes get post for the same numbered house on the next street. When this happens, I pop round and post it in their letterbox. I do this whatever the letter, whether it looks important or not, so not really sure what you are asking? :o

I was asking what do I write on the letter so it gets posted to the correct address?...the correct house is 2miles away and as I don't drive Im not going to walk the distance to correct RM's mistake.

From the horse's mouth this is the official line.

May I also suggest adding wrongly delivered to XX20 please deliver to XX10

I like the idea of just handing it to the postie - if you can catch him :).

I would suggest complaining to the council as it is they who allocate street names and numbers. They might rename one section of the street to remove the conflict.

This time it was the post, next time it could be an emergency vehicle that got delayed.

a large proportion of mail comes sequenced to the specific duty, the rest sorted manually by your posty
sometimes even the computer gets it wrong,
you would be surprised at the amount of double/triple named roads in your area.
there are 2 "main st" within the same area at ours which does get mixed up if it doesn't say the village name and just the town name, afraid its human error,
just pop it into a postbox and it "should" make its way to its rightful owner
