The baggage allowance on the internal flight would have been less on the internal flight than the trans atlantic leg but the higher allowance was honoured.
Did you have a stop-over though?
If you're flying with an internal connection, no charge...if you fly to destination a - stay a few nights - then take an internal flight to destination b...that's when the charges hit, as I understand it...if you didn't have a stopover it would be interesting to know which airline, to see if some maybe still are doing things the old fashioned way.
And now I see you have already named the airline...I think I need stronger contacts.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Confused...we check in online the day before, but haven't reconfirmed anything 72-hours before for about 10 years. Which airline was this?
And on the baggage thing - I was surprised to read this has changed -there was another thread about this recently...we've been gold or platinum with AA for a bit now, and the charges must have come in between the point I did the platinum challenge and now as we didn't realise they had moved away from at least one bag free on internal flights if you were on a trans-atlantic ticket. I'm grateful for these forums as it could have been a most annoying surprise for us otherwise - especially as we generally travel with 3 checked cases between us (gifts on the way there, American stuff on the way back).
It's on the Virgin website and the internal flight was booked through them, but we were flying with Continental, not Virgin America and we just happened to notice on the off chance. It let us book in on that flight to San Fran about 5 days beforehand.

Its the "secure flight" bit 3/4 of the way down. OK, that's not confirming 72 hours before - that's providing certain information at least 72 hours before...you can provide it (at least with the airlines we fly with) anytime after booking...I misunderstood what you meant as many moons ago you DID have to reconfirm with your airline a few days before departure.
In any event, we always check our flights multiple times on the run up to our departure to check for any updated times, etc...not a bad idea to have a peek from time to time.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

Sorry if I confused you
. It's just that we had never had an internal flight with a seperate airline so the procedure is new to us IYSWIM.
TBH we did check the t&c about 6 months before and we didn't see anything like that on the Q&A, but just happened to look on the off chance, because the USA always seem to be tweaking the rules regarding travel, and we panicked a little bit. I'll be honest - because we only go to the USA every 2-3 years it always seems different to us everytime :rotfl:BEST EVER WINS WON IN ORDER (so far) = Sony Camcorder, 32" lcd telly, micro ipod hifi, Ipod Nano, Playstation 3, Andrex Jackpup, Holiday to USA, nintendo wii, Liverpool vs Everton tickets, £250 Reward Your thirst, £500 Pepsi, p&o rotterdam trip, perfume hamper, Dr Who stamp set, steam cleaner.

It's just the way it goes now on American airlines. I'm not sure if they could even add in the cost as you say but if they did I guess someone would then complain that the second, third bags were not included. What about meals and drinks on those internal flights. The American airlines, if a meal is even provided, charge. Should Virgin also take a guess at what you might want to eat and add that to the price of your holiday as well?
No they shouldn't, but it's a safe bet that we will need to check one bag each into the hold. If Virgin knew about these charges (which they must have when I booked) they should have told me explicitly when I asked at booking time about any extra charges.
Does anyone know any reason why Virgin can't add one piece of hold baggage each to the ticket?
As for using the Internet, hats off to Delta. At online check-in the day before the NY/Boston flight, my wife and I were originally booked on seats several rows apart. She posted about this on Twitter, Delta contacted us and then moved our seats next to each other. Fantastic service and a testament to the power of Twitter.0
