Sounds like he was put in his place - how much longer is there before you are actually made redundant?

I remember the milk thread. I do hope you're going to leave some rotting cartons of sour milk around the office when you finally go, just to keep him company.

    Well done shygirl!

just agree, get a PAYG and leave it at work on charge 24/7

that's boring. you need to leave it somewhere more interesting
1 - at the local S&M brothel so he thinks you're getting a spanking
2 - at the police station overnight so he thinks you've been arrested
3 - under the canal bridge so he thinks you're sleeping rough
4 - in his garden so he thinks you're giving his wife a seeing to while he's at work

He is assuming you all have a modern phone? You should say, ''sure, you can do it, I'll just set up the app on my Nokia 3210''

I would say most people I know personally don't have phones that meet the technical requirements (from what I understand from a glance at the Google help info). It probably depends a lot on the work environment (and salaries) but not everyone wants or can afford smartphones. Just go to Asda and buy a £10 PAYG mobile and register that if he causes any more trouble.

I comprehensively disagree. When shygirl can say "You have no right, and I have no obligation - Here ends ANY and All arguments", why should anyone creep around spending £10 on a silly subterfuge?

The request is so out of order, that boss should learn that the answer is NO, rather than a dozen people each spending £10 on dumb insubordination because they don't have the guts to draw a reasonable line exactly where it should be drawn.
