Google Latitude & Boss

In a 'haha would you mind terribly' tone today he stated he would expect us all to consent to add each of us on latitude... (Google tracking showing where you are on a map via your mobile)
His argument was the old ‘if you are not doing anything wrong then you have nothing to fear’ stance.
Answer: ' Yes, I would mind. Terribly. '
That's made easier, of course, because he's wanting access to your personal phone. He's got to know he's onto a non-starter with this, otherwise you'd just have been told to do it, rather than apologetically asked if you'd mind doing it.Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0 -
Tell him you installed "Google Mind your own sodding business Mr Manager" and now your phone is full up and doesn't have any memory left to install Google Latitude. If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0

If you want to appear compliant and ensure you have a good reference coming is to dig through your cupboards and find a really old phone that doesn't have the capacity to go online. If this is your 'only' phone you are being compliant to his request but the phone you have is not capable of meeting his demands.
TBH I would be saying no and telling him where to go but unitl you have something else lined up you are still potentially at his mercy.
ETA: just read the milk thread - what an a-hole he is!If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -
This thread is amusing but its all a bit scarily big brother isnt it??! A company who want to track their employees so they are not taking the p**s even though they are making them redundant....
I would just say I dont have a mobile if I didnt want to be inflammatory or following the milk incident (which DID make me laugh
) tell em to sod off...
Re references, I bet HR will just do the standard start date, end date etc, there will be no personal content at all.Light Bulb Moment - 11th Nov 2004 - Debt Free Day - 25th Mar 2011 :j0 -
What phone? My phone? You're kidding right? Hang on, I'm just going to call my lawyer to check whether this is harassment or stalking, just to get the terminology right for when I put my grievance in.
And have a carton of milk on the desk tomorrow - or pour a cup of it from a flask as you respond. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
He is utterly obsessed when we are being given time away for interviews (very reluctantly) that we are just skiving.
Are you and your colleagues keeping track of how much paid time you are taking off for interviews?
Though I agree your manager is a case apart from the rest of us, your legal entitlement to paid leave for interviews is limited to two-fifth's of a week's pay no matter how long your notice period is.
[Certainly nobody should agree to his latest suggestion.]0 -
Oh that milk theft thread has made me chuckle. I work with a similar tool who also appears to be teflon coated, but one of these days...0

OK boss, if you want to use google latitude on me that's fine, but YOU'LL provide the phone because i'm not providing my own personal property for the purposes of business, it's neither insured for it nor designed for it.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0

Hi Guys,
I thought I would update you on how things went.
As it turns out I didn’t need to get all het up because by the time I arrived it was all sorted. The quietest, wouldn’t say boo to a goose, team member decided to take him on.
From here on in is what I was told but I was not there to see firsthand.
He stomped over and suggested that everyone get their phones out so he could assist them set up the program/application (?).
Shygirl piped up and said ‘never going to happen in my lifetime’ to which he spun around and start to open his mouth to have a go... when she said ‘You have no right, and I have no obligation. Here ends ANY and All arguments. He started to speak again and she stated very calmly but firmly “Did you not understand? I will repeat for you ANY and All arguments.....She then promptly sat down and picked up the ringing phone with a clear and calm tone proceeded to help the customer.
We are being taken in to a meeting to discuss this later this afternoon but we are practicing “‘You have no right, and I have no obligation - Here ends ANY and All arguments.
*Grin*Please note I have a cognitive disability - as such my wording can be a bit off, muddled, misspelt or in some cases i can miss out some words totally...0
