Hi,
I have been looking for a car on eaby and found one from a private dealer(auction) which looks ok and is HPI clear. But never bought a car from a dealer, so need some details how it works.Who would be as the last owner of the car on V5?The person who sold the car to the dealer? How do I know then that the car has not been stolen apart from HPI(which is OK done by autocheck web).He has got a positive feedback and even offered to pick me up from the station -6 miles (which I found a bit weird).. .but thats me being a woman
so any advice?
thanks in advance.

you cant win can you?
i often collect from the station a good few miles
in the old days it was called service
many people dont understand this word anymore
to answer your other concerns what is a private dealer?
trader because that is whet he is will have the log book with previous 2 owners name on it
you can also use the long referance number on the front page to check the mot history log at vosa
now get that bus out:D0 -
Thanks for info:)
Guess moving to London has changed my attitude to people as my neighbours wont even reply hi/morning...
Bus takes 1.5hours and I already will spend an hour on the train so ...I will accept the pick up offer(I am sooo bad) but will take a male friend to view the car as he knows about cars more than I do(which is only what I read online :rotfl:)0 -

As sb hasd indicated how can a dealer be private??
He is either a dealer or a private seller, they are worlds apart, the psuedo private seller however is much more common
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
If you are buying from a trader/dealer the V5C/3 (yellow slip) part of the log-book should have been sent off by the last keeper. This is to notify DVLA that they are no longer the keeper and that the vehicle is now 'in trade'.
Don't expect the name of the trader/dealer to show on the V5C log-book as the current keeper.
It is a good idea to go along with a friend who is familiar with cars and the buying process just for peace of mind.
Good luck!0
