EON Door to Door

Some EON representative came to the door today, said he needed to check my card and key as we had overpaid.

However I am with British Gas, so told him my husband had the key and he said we would get a letter in the post.

Was this a scam?

Got to be a scam, as it is impossible to overpay with pre-payment.
Apart from that, get rid of it and get normal bills; you might save 30% if you play it right.

Definitely complain to Eon. The sales agents are given very specific guidelines set by both ofgem and internal eon codes of practice when selling door to door, his approach is not sanctioned by the company and given the fact that sse have successfully been prosecuted in May because of the way their door to door reps sold to customers in an extremely misleading way, it has lead to sse suspending all door to door sales activities and the 900 staff that do that job for sse are staring down the barrel of loosing their jobs because of this type of selling. You should be quoted by a power company based on actual annual usage in kilowatt hours (kwh), if you've lived at the property less than 12 months they do have tools that after a discussion with you will help them make an educated estimate of usage and they should then relate this information top you in comparison to current provider. Prepay electric with Eon is dearer today than Bg, their prices are about to go up 18 August but Eon's will go up soon also so unsure what to say what the position will be opnce the increases have settled, but raise this complaint with Eon.

    Hi asdurley,

I have to agree with others, this doesn't sound right and is not the way our sales agents should be speaking to people.

Did you get any ID or their names?

Looking at your keys/cards is not a way to see if people are overpaying.

The best thing to do is use a comparison site with your yearly kWh, for pre-payment you may just want to ask the individual suppliers for the unit cost as well.

You can contact E.ON with any info you have about them or even just the date time and location.

I'm sorry that this has happened.
