Can anyone please help me? I have quite an old packard bell computer and need to install a graphics card for my sons Dawn of War game. It has to be Geforce 3 Nvidia. I know I have pci slots as someone said they are the white ones, so I bought a 3d pci express card which was completely the wrong size and shape! Can anybody please tell me which one in need to buy, am really confused, and please don't say I have to buy a new computer! thanks

I suspect you have an AGP graphics port so you'll need an AGP graphics card. You'll always miss 100% of the shots you don't take - Wayne Gretzky

Oh, I was told the agp was the brown slot?0

If he has an onboard graphics card presently, there is no reason to believe that they will be able to fit an AGP card. If you can fit a AGP card, go for that
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/119724 - this is a pci gfx card for £50
Its not that good, but pci graphics cards are not.
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?groupid=701&catid=56&subid=403 here are some AGP cards, the more expensive, the better.
Colours of slots do not make any difference, its the size that does. It does happen that mine does have a brown AGP slot, but here is a picture. (I know I am no artist)0 -
So are there only 3 types then, agp, pci and pci express? don't mind what the graphics are like, just need the game to work! Gib_gib, why don't they show the shape of the card, it that the one do you think?0

Oh, then mine is def pci, thanks so much for your help, will get that card from ebuyer.0

There are more types, but these are the only 3 types you are likely to come across in a home pc in the last 6 years.
AGP is approx 6cm from the closest edge of the motherboard
PCI is approx 4cm from the closest edge of the motherboard
give or take a few mm.
Your machine will have a pci slot, but an AGP card is a lot better, but you may not have an AGP slot.

oh blimey. There are two spare slots greyish white, there is a long bit about 3" and a short bit about 1/2". I think the original graphics are attached to the motherboard and I can't see a spare agp.0
