But thinking about it if shes somewhere that she doesnt have access to a computer like if shes away on holiday or something and cant plug it into a computer so maybe it wont hurt to have one of these anyway, I suppose they can be used for other stuff too

No you don't 'need' it but that adapter would be useful, as you say, if you want to charge it either away from the computer, away from the car or bothered about trailing leads in the car.

Did this happen to anyone else?

I ordered the tom tom one from halfords using the morethan 10% discount code. They rang me up the next day and said I couldn't have the 10% as it was selected items only, I opted to cancel the order.

Last week the tom tom one arrived but I haven't been debited for it. Yet!

Anyway, I really rate it at that price!! LOL
