Pay as you drive advice please

Has anybody out there managed to insure their car on a policy with one company cheaply but for their daughter/son to drive it on a pay as you drive with another one that allows this? Eg can you turn off the tracker when you use it (being covered under your policy) and on when your daughter/son does to be covered on the other.

I believe tracker is permenatly on and cannot be switched off0
