security tag on DVD

Options
my DD has opened one of her pressies this morning - a Pirates of the Carribean DVD and there is some sort of red plug thing preventing the case being opened i am assuming it is some sort of security tag they haven't removed - she is well hacked off, has anyone any idea how to get it out without cutting open the case and risking the disc i can't cope with the mardybum until Wednesday when asda open

  • You may be able to get it open if you have a very strong magnet.

    littlemissfrugal,

I work for ASDA, the red tag you are talking about IS the security tag that is placed on DVDs to stop them being stolen

The colleague who served you that DVD should have taken it off at the checkout...Somebody needs re-trained on how to take them out

ASDA re-open on wednesday - you should take it back with your reciept ( as proof of purchase ) and they will remove the tag for you

    Merry christmas to all

Remember to find a security guard or staff person before walking too far into a shop, a common con is to buy an item, then go back into the shop pick up another one of them, then taking it to the till saying "I have the recipt can you just take off the security tag"

Just be aware, some are designed to destroy the disc when opened so be very careful getting it off yourself

This happened to me as well and I as I had purchased it about 3 months before I didn't have the reciept. Luckly ASDA were very good and still removed the tag for usm but we did have the celophane with the ASDA price label on to prove it was from there.

Yeah don't attempt to remove the tag it will damage the disk, call before you go & explain to customer services, get the name of who you spoke to, you'll have no problems. Shame for your DD though
  • if it's not a DVD you bought her but a friend / relative then make sure they didn't nick it, just incase you look a bit silly trying to return a nicked DVD.
  • I bought a Superman t-shirt for my nephew at a huge Tesco which was about a 50 minute drive away. I walked out of the store and the alarm didn't go off. I got home and saw the clothing security tag on the t-shirt just as I was wrapping it up.

OH struggled but finally got it off with a pair of pliers but it was a pain to remove.
