Help Please First Direct Totally Confused

Hello
I finally managed to get the t&c's from my FD loan - lots of messing about to get there. The loan was for £1300 in 2000! I still owe £375. 2000/01 were very stressful years for me and I got into debt. I remember the phone call applying for this loan and being told to tick the loan protection box and feeling reassured this would cover me for illness etc.
Now I feel a bit stupid - I rang First Direct and the man was really helpful. He told me the loan was cleared in April 2001- they amalgamated the loan with my overdraft totalling a new balance of £1920 - I remember going overdrawn to pay the rent and deposit on a flat having left to live in another town. I then signed a repayment agreement on this amount. By Aug 2004 I had repaid £600 and owed £1343-35. By Aug 2005 it was £1194-53. March 2006 was £981-89. I then had to reduce payments (left work- babies) - 2009 was £646. I asked him if I had paid this and was paying interest and he said I probably was - so I have gone from thinking I may have a small loan protection claim to confused - can I claim anything at all? I am not denying any obligation - just trying to sort my financials out once and for all!
Sorry to waffle on - but thanks for reading if you have! Any advice appreciated
