Slotting in

Hi - can anyone tell me on what basis someone could successfully challenge a "slotted" employee? I job share with someone, our department was restructured and we were slotted across into the new structure.
We were subsequently "unslotted" following a challenge but no information on who or how challenged this has been forthcoming.
My question is, would there need to be written evidence that a challenge was made? Can anyone challenge the slotting, (i.e. could someone do it on behalf of another employee?). How would they investigate whether the challenge was legitimate?
The most galling thing is that currently, following a recruitment process, I and my jobshare are now left without a job because the person who we believe challenged the slotting gave a fantastic performance at interview and although her performance day-to-day is questionable, apparently past-performance was unable to be considered. The irony is this person has not even finished being trained for the job she now has. We are considering appealing the process on the grounds that we were not aware of on what basis the recruitment would be judged - any thoughts on how to mount a successful challenge would be gratefully received.

There is no legal frameowrk for this matter - how people are allocated to posts must be "fair and objective" and that is all. What you are describing is employers policy - not law, and as such the only person who can answer this is the employer.0

Thanks SarEl - so what you are saying is that there is no legal precedent and I would have to unravel my employer's published procedures to see if they adhered to them?0
