Slate patio

Would like to put a slate patio down in garden but very confused as to use Brazilian or Indian slate. Have noticed that Indian slate is thicker but that Brazilian slate is smoother. Also the price varies greatly.
Could someone please advise as to where to go to source it and which is the nicer looking when it is down.
Any help greatly appreciated.

I've used Brazilian slate as a hearth for my inglenook. Its shocking TBH as I live in the middle of Snowdonia surrounded by beautifull slate but its just too expensive! I went to a local slate merchant & bought slate tiles for £200 as local slate would have cost double the amount. I was more than happy with the effect I also bought polished slabs as window sills. Again, Welsh slate would have cost over £1500. They are beautiful. I shall again be buying Brazilian slate for a footpath round the house & for the patio. The onmy time we've used Welsh slate was to roof the extension & that was because teh existing roof tiles were from Penrhyn Heather Blue & I just don't like its colour but it was a must so hey ho we spent a bloody fortune.
Have a look on the interet. The company I used were http://www.slateandstone.net/ and I'd definately use again.
This company is also local to me http://www.inigojones.co.uk/ and they use Welsh slate. I intend on using their products round the house.0 -
the thickness\smoother thing isnt really down to the country of origin. slate is usually either split down the natural clefts in the stone or cut. cut slate is a uniform thickness whilst hand split slate is less smooth and a more variable thickness.
Thickness shouldn't be an issue as long as its laid properly. the quality of brazillian slate is in our opinion higher with less colour variation
Please have a look at http://www.tradepricetiles.co.uk/natural-stone/slate-tiles-quartzite-tiles.html too. Being up front this is my site, we do a lot of slate for external use, i'm sure price wise and we can be very competitive0
