Unless, as RSNK says, you can prove the socket was faulty when you bought it (very unlikely if you've been using it OK for 2.5 years) then Argos will quite rightly want nothing to do with it.
Save yourself a journey and find a local independent computer repair company and ask them to give you a quote for fixing it. It'll probably be more than the laptop is worth now (next to nothing after this time) but it may be less than buying a new one. I assume you have already backed up all your data so it's not lost if the laptop can't be repaired?0 -
3 year warranty? Or was it only 12 months?
a broken charging point is a common fault, commonly cause by usage/damage to the laptop - you would have to provide a technicians report, out of your own pocket to prove the fault existed prior to purchase, if it was Argos should refund your money for the report - its highly unlikely they will entertain your complaint without it - receipt or not.
For me you will be very lucky to get anything more than a contribution in vouchers if its outside warranty, and if that is the case, after usage deduction it wont be anywhere near original purchase price.0 -
its faulty cause you broke it what do you expect argos to doReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0

hi, thanks, all.
Am I within my right to format the hard drive then re-install windows before sending it back to Argos?
Thanks0 -
If the laptop is still within a warranty period then you have to seek help from the manufacturer rather than Argos. I doubt very much they will entertain any of it.
Check your warranty form that you wil have got with the laptop.
If there was only a 1 year warranty then take it to an independant PC repair company for a quote.
It is highly likely that the manufacturer will tell you it is not a warranty repair going by the nature of the fault.
Exessive force/usage can be blamed for it.

Have you not read anything written here?hi, thanks, all.

You can't just "send it back to Argos".
Charging point failure is almost always down to misuse, or even just fair wear and tear after 2.5 years.
Tripping over the lead whilst charging. Picking the laptop up forgetting that it's still plugged in...
You will have to prove via independent report that it was an inherent fault and not down to misuse. This will be next to impossible.
A lot of PC shops do this repair. The part costs very little. Labour brings it up to about £60 - £80.0 -
While i agree on the misuse part, i dont see theres any harm in the OP asking argos (politely and do NOT demand or mention rights etc). You never know, argos may offer up something they dont have to - such as a repair - with no report necessary.
Never hurts to politely ask.You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
