Using Banks Asset Management with probate estate

For reasons that were arranged long ago my wife's father had Nat West as his executors. I realised that this was an expensive way of doing things but what was done back in 1980's is done. I would like to point out that their service has been first class, taking everything over and dealing with it all, coming to us when advice/signatures were required. This all came at a price of 4%!!!!!!
We are now down to selling his flat and have just dropped the price with the estate agent. He had to inform the bank and they have asked us if we would like to use their asset management company partner at a rate of 1.75% to help increase the exposure.
Has anyone used this type of service? Is it just another way of taking cash away from the estate?
