iTunes Home Sharing - Unable to Set Up

Hi,
Have had a search through this board, but don't seem to be able to find a similar problem/answer, so here goes.
I'm trying to set up a laptop so that we can listen to iTunes downloads as well as on our desktop.
I've followed the instructions off the iTunes help, and both desktop and laptop have home sharing enabled. However, I cannot see the playlists from the desktop on the laptop.
The computers are both run from a BT Home Hub. The desktop is connected via an ethernet cable to the hub, the laptop connected wirelessly. Would this be the reason that I cannot see the desktop under the Home Sharing on iTunes?
Have also noticed after having read and re-read the help on iTunes that it says:
"look for shared libraries:
Choose Edit > Preferences.
Click Sharing and select “Look for shared libraries.”
However, this does NOT appear as an option in the Edit/Sharing/ Preferences pane. I have the latest version of iTunes uploaded so am now at a loss as to what is going on!!!!
The Sharing window also shows "Status on, no users connected" which seems to indicate that the laptop is not communicating with the desktop :confused2
Any help/suggestions gratefully received before my hair turns even greyer than it is now
!!!
Many thanks.
