Carpet...Contents or Buildings??

Unfortunately a few weeks ago, I managed to get printer cartridge ink on our carpet which is only about a year old.

I've had a look at our Buildings and Contents Insurance (both with Direct Line). Turns out that accidental cover is included for buildings but not contents.

Is carpet classed as buildings or contents? If it's buildings and I claim, is this likely to push up my premium by a lot (never claimed before).

In reviewing this policy, should I really look to add on accidental cover to contents insurance?

Cheers! Have a great Christmas

I understand that anything that is not a permanent fixture is insured under contents insurance so this would include your carpet. Fixed items (including bathroom suites/kitchen units) are insured under buildings insurance.

    Oh well.

Will have to investigate adding accidental cover for contents!

    Thanks anyway,

 WOULD I BE ABLE TO CLAIM ON CONTENTS:confused: INSURANCE IF I HAVE FOUND 'MOULD/MOLD' UNDER THE CARPETS ?
It is also around the bath (skirting board) but I am not brave enough to look under the bath !!

I live in a house converted into flats, and not much air circulation although I have a de-humidifier in bathroom, on every day and open windows.

However over the past few weeks, i have noticed lots of mould round the bath area close to the bath = Skirting Board area, Under Wallpaper, Around the Sealer of Bath and Carpet.

Any Suggestions as Landlady is v.old and does not like to do anything to the property.
    Many Thanks.

You most likely have free legal cover with your insurance? I would contact them and see if they can help you claim against landlady.
