Another car question...

Hi - If I was to remove DH name from my car insurance prior to him going BR would that be ok does anyone know?
As it stands, I understand that if he is currently insured on my car, which he is and declares that he is insured on it, there is a possibility he would have to sell his own car and would be made to use mine.
Basically we are trying to avoid losing both cars!

Can I ask where you got that info from?
The real question is do you need both cars , as in do you both work?0 -
Hi Kepar - yes, he works away and travels around so needs a car.
I work from home and use my car for deliveries & to get our child to school. However DH currently funds my car as I don't earn enough to run the car.
I am happy to purchase a smaller car (even though mine is only worth about £800) but don't really want to be without one at all because of my business.
CCCS told me if he was insured on my car the OR could advise him to sell his and he use mine, hence I wondered if he wasn't insured to drive mine then the OR would not be able to make him self his if it came to it....
It's just a question at this stage. thanks0 -
Surely if she is not going bankrupt then the OR cannot make her give up use of HER car?Building a new life after bankruptcy0

That's what I thought MTDancer, my car is over 12 years old so it's not exactly worth much.
When reading the SOA and the BR forms it states that he would need to declare there are 2 cars in the household and also declare he has access to both.
So perhaps to make myself a bit clearer, if he is not insured to drive it, then surely he would only need to declare "one" car in the household? :-s0 -
That's the biggest problem here. The OP states she cannot fund her own car. It will be highly unlikely that the OR would allow the OH to fund two cars... If a need can be proven, such as a disabled child requiring regular medical appointments whilst the BR is away on business, then it's a possibility, but a very slim one. I guess even in my example the OR might suggest the second car is funded from the child's DLA money...When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

OK - so as first mentioned, if OH is taken off my insurance and cannot therefore drive it, surely he does not need to declare there are two cars in the household?
Or if he does declare there are 2 cars, but states he is not permitted to drive the other one, then surely they would not have any interest in it as it is registered in my name etc. ?
Does the OR need to see bank statements each month to see how things are paid for and by whom? To ensure the "haircut" money for example is actually getting spent on "haircuts" rather than being used for my petrol etc?0 -
The way I see it is, the questions asks -how many cars are in the household. Answering 1 is in correct and could cause problems later.
Using money allocated to haircuts etc, will raise a small amount., but a car probably costs around £200 a month to run. Also if a major problem arises with it , and an IPA is being paid you cannot go to the OR to get help.
Do you really need a second car?0 -
OK, you are right I believe in that if OH has no use of your car then he does not need to declare it on his BR forms.
IF he believes his SOA figures will be accepted by the OR and leave enough for him to continue paying for the running costs of your car (that's a lot to find each month) then he can but try.
However, the OR will want to see at least the last 12 months bank statements and may spot the additional insurance premiums going out and query them.
It's best not to hide anything from the OR as they surely will find out eventually, that's their job after all. So if OH is paying for two cars he really should declare it.When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN
