My darling husband has invited people here for tonight and tomorrow morning til lunch time we will be visiting. I just don't know when I'm gonna get time to do the vegetables for the dinner.
Is it possible to start preparing them now???
Perhaps peal and slice them put them in a sauce pan with a bit of water till tomorrow??
I got cauliflower, broccoli, potatoes, parsnips and sprouts....
I feel the panic is start to set in. The only good thing is that everything else is done and ready for tomorrow

I always do my veg the night before just about to go and do it. Just make sure you change the water in the morning before cook them Otherwise they seem to have a funny tang. Hope all goes well. Merry christmas. When life gives you a hundred reasons to cry, show life that you have a thousand reasons to smile0

Hi I have just read this read this thread and think it's a great idea. I have a question though. Do you have to add salt to the water?0

Thanks for the advice of changing the water in the morning, I probably would not have thought of it.
I got everything pealed, sliced and ready now. Thank you all for helping out :jfreebiehunter29 wrote:Hi I have just read this read this thread and think it's a great idea. I have a question though. Do you have to add salt to the water?
I personally don't use salt, since I got young kids and they probably get more than whats good for them anyway.0 -
As soon as my 2 are in bed (by 8, hopefully!!!) i will be laying the table, and peeling/preparing all the veg. i do this every year and everything is fine. I keep them all in unsalted water, then drain and rinse in the morning, as i steam some of it and roast the other bits!!!!0

I have cooked our christmas dinner already bar the roasties and parsnips. I have a hostess trolley so its taken the hassle out of crimbo day. I did have great help from my daughter(she peeled about 10 sprouts lol).0

I was planning to get ahead of schedule and prep all my veg today.
I bought myself a lovely new carving knife for preparing my meat. Unfortunately I managed to slice the back of my finger open whilst opening the packet it came in!
So whilst I spent the afternoon at casualty, my mum and sister stepped in and prepared the veg for me.
The only other problem is that I have to keep the dressing dry so someone else will have to wash up tomorrow!Twins, twice the laughs, twice the fun, twice the mess!:j:j0 -
I'm happy to say I've prepared my veg, cooked the swede and mashed ready to re-heat tomorrow (tastes just as good re-heated), got the rest of veg and potatoes soaking in water. I'm cooking the goose and the ham at the moment so won't have loads to do in the morning.
Also layed the table for tomorrow, don't mean to sound smug but there are only 3 of us for dinner. It's boxing day I need to prepare for, then there will be 14 of us but cold buffet not cooked.0
