Know of any FREE FAXING software?

I am looking for a freeware fax utility that will enable me to send faxes direct from my PC Windows applications such as Word etc, to any fax machine.

If you know of any free software I can download that will do this, please could you let me know.

Any replies gratefully received!

The Print... dialogue of any application should list Fax as an available 'printer'. Just 'print' to the Fax and it should fire up the Send Fax Wizard, asking you for destination fax no., cover sheet etc.

If Fax isn't listed you can install it via the Add/Remove Windows Components in Add or Remove Programs.

HI,

Most windows have a built in Fax prog---it is just not loaded---go into Control Panel---add/remove prorams----windows companents and tick on the fax programme---that should ask for your CD and then load the programme for you.

thanks for your replies. I installed the Windows faxing component as you suggested - looked as if it would work but when I tried sending a test fax it failed, saying that there was "no dial tone". Is there any way of altering settings to rectify this?

What's your Windows operating system and modem make & model?

Is the modem being used by anything else (e.g. dial-up connection to your ISP)?

Are you using Dial-Up or Broadband? Windows Fax will not work with Broadband!

It should do. You can have a broadband connection and a dial-up connection on at the same time. The dial-up modem can be sending a fax or connected to an ISP.

We have broadband and faxing on the same line at work. We are using windows fax.

Our set up is that we have a microfilter plugged into the socket. We then have a telephone coupler plugged into one side of the filter with a telephone in one hole and the modem plug in the other. I can't remember if the system worked without the telephone. It seems to me typing this that the 'phone shouldn't matter so on Monday I am going to try plugging my modem directly in to the filter. I think I left the 'phone on because it is the only line we have a touch tone 'phone on which we often have to use when calling various numbers.

The router is plugged into the second part of the filter. It all works absolutely fine and we can fax and use the internet at the same time.
