I have just purchased annual cover from travelinsureweb. I looked at insuretogo (which were more expensive) and moneysupermarket (were cheaper but they didn't seem to offer as comprehensive a cover). Be careful about some of the cheap policies though .. some of them cover very few activities, make sure you are covered for what you intend to do.

Don't forget Martins article ... I went down most of the companies he lists ... and a few others.

Don't even think of looking for anything over there, it will be very expensive. I presume this is a holiday or are you going to live there for a year? It will make a big difference on the policy. Most holiday cover is for a maximum period of days, and not the entire year away.

If you want to purchase an ANNUAL policy for a trip to the US Expect to pay a premium of around £250.

Yep some current accounts include free Travel Insurance, otherwise, for a week in the States you shouldn't have to pay more than 20 quid.

I have just purchased annual cover from travelinsureweb. .....

Googled for "travelinsureweb" but only found a spam website. Any more exact details?

(Looking for World excl. USA cover, 1 month commencing Jan and others are quoting around £35.)

Many travel policies, even the annual ones, only cover you for a maximum period of, say three months. They are designed for people who take several holidays a year, not for people who take one very long holiday.

I had to proceed using colombus-direct as we had purchased the air ticket and needed immediate cancellation cover. But the above link quoted 25% less (single trip) than Colombus so something to remember for the next time.
