after making sure that system restore is turned on, try unticking the dit.exe entry in autoruns, then reboot.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

I already tried this with dit.exe in the msconfig and I know the problem will dissapear whilst this is not running. But it tells you this is a required file it says
("dit.exe" is a MultiCard reader tool. It is required to assign drive icons and names to flash memory cards)
Isn't this like saying there is fault with my lights and turning the light switch off and saying there you go the fault has gone since the lights are off and so is the switch, ie isn't it just masking the problem.
I thought it was dit.exe so i tried diabling everything in msconfig except dit.exe and then slowly one by one enabling things. I thought I had it when I was left with 2 causing the fault. Skype and a file for my flatbed scanner would each bring up the fault independently. So I thought bingo I have it but then I retstarted with the two suspected culprits unticked and the fault came up. I was ready to bang my head on the table, I can tell you.
I do have a multi camera card thingy in the front of my PC by the way.
Sorry not trying to be awkward.0 -
On that link I posted one simple solution was to (re)install Norton Internet Security, activate it (register it online I guess) and then uninstall it. Try that!0

I'm confused, does disabling dit fix it?
If so, disable it, and run it manually if you need to put a card in.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
yes disabling dit will fix it but what I am trying to say is if you then ever run dit again the fault will reappear because it has not been found.
As I said above I disabled everything in msconfig EXCEPT dit and there was no fault so this would prove to me that dit is not the culprit. Disabling it just hides the problem the way I see it.
I really want to cure the problem not just stop it for now.0 -
try sticking a sd-card in.
your results are puzzling, if removing the one entry get's rid of it, then that's what I'd do, and run it manually if you ever need to stick a card in.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Nope just tried that. It doesn't alter the problem and the sd card does work ok.
Is there no way to start up, once in windows one by one so you can watch which one causes it.
Dont mean to be a pain but I feel like I'm bodging it by doing it that way, I'd rather find the cause if its at all possible. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and I know it will iritate me if I know there is still some kind of fault in the background waiting to reappear if I do certain things.
Dont worry albertross you can leave it here if you want to if we cant sort it, I know its a pain in the neck this one. I'm still grateful for all your help.0 -
untick the lot, then run them manually one by one until you hit the message.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
