I agree with this - on the way down once base went below 3% avings and mortgage rates stopped falling with the base rate and to some extent the same thing is likely to happen on the way up.

Notice that although the rhetoric is about rate rises getting closer, of late best buy savings and mortgage rates, even 5 year fixes, have been falling.
    I think....

I see that interest rates have been held again by the BoE. Good news for those brave souls who gambled on low rates I guess?

Looks like Renoman's gamble continues to pay off.
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.

I just returned a 30% return on an emerging market fund thanks to Brexit.

Reinvested half the proceeds in a fund invested in RMBS earning 7%.

So great to be debt free. :)

It's been a good few years to be long dollars short sterling.

This is only true because dollars are a world currency and sterling only slightly. Dollar has tons of debt, tons of QE still ongoing and rates just as low as USA plus their trade deficit.
To swing the longs back to sterling just needs either more exports by UK or just simply more trading in global deals.
Since EU has low growth and the world growth is potentially gigantic in its size they need to take advantage of remaking these trade deals to redirect to Asia or anywhere with growth

For example India has just reformulated their tax code to be national not locally based and varied by tons of county customs. There is such a big opportunity if business can help take part in India's growth, the majority of their population is below 30 years old
  • Well all I know is, my USD denominated shares were worth £225k a month or two ago and they're worth £275k today. That looks a lot like a £50k gain to me and most of it is from the cable rate gain.

Of course DividedNation assures me this isn't real money, so presumably he'd agree that there should be no tax on it.
  • With the likelihood of an interest rate rise occurring before October this year when RM can arrange a cheap 10 year fix receding, it looks like his gamble has completely and utterly paid off!
