Answer the question. Did you buy a share in a home in 2006/2007?0 -

It makes no difference and is common knowledge, but yes, 2006.
How about you answer the ones I asked you? Only I think you will find you are incredibly wrong.0 -

Do you think it was financially astute to buy a share in a house in 2006?0 -
You won't answer a direct question, will you?
The point is, you can't plan a market crash, you can only look at your purchase in hindsight. Linking hindsight and factors outside of anyones control and then making out someone is financially inept is probably one of the stupidest and immature things I have read on this forum.
Does placing a bet on red, and red coming up make them financially astute? Is someone who played the national lottery but didn't win financially inept, but the jackpot winner financially astute?
It's a complete and utter nonsense, so no surprise where it comes from.0 -

Oh dear, off you go again with your frothing. Let's stick to facts, Devon and save your games for someone who will fall for it.
My answer is probably the same as yours, you know this and hence you won't respond.
"Graham Devon, in hindsight, do you think that it was financially astute of you to buy a share in a house in 2006?"
Well? Do you?0 -
Stop linking astuteness to luck, and we may get somewhere.
Until then, catch yer later.0 -

LOL, pathetic. So, reading between the lines, you clearly don't think you were financially astute in buying a share in a house in 2006. Well, if you don't (and you actually bought it), then why on earth do you expect me to think it was financially astute?
I therefore return to my original statement (which you have tried desperately to misquote) and say:
"If someone entered into a house share in 2006/2007 at peak price and just prior to a crash, then one would struggle to find any astuteness"
As far as 'luck' is concerned, I refer you to my earlier response to Percy1983. Clearly you gave no thought to research on the direction of house prices prior to buying. I assume you didn't discover the House Crash thread until after you bought?0 -
Why are you limiting it to shared ownership?
I assume it's because you don't want to offend your buddies Hamish, ISTL etc who all bought houses at the same time?
Shared ownership actually means I have lost less (only lose a percentage of any price fall). Owning the full amount would have cost me 100% of the price fall, rather than 50%.
You clearly have no idea what you are talking about, but single out shared ownership for no other reason other than to direct it at me. You are being an utter idiot.0 -

Well we were discussing house shares when I made my comment, but I am happy to extend my statement and say:
"If someone bought a house in 2006/2007 at peak price and just prior to a crash, then one would struggle to find any astuteness".
Do you disagree?0 -
Most people who invested in property around 2006/7, shared or total ownership were not very astute.
If they had been astute, they'd have bought gold.
So, to anyone who thinks buying a shared ownership property is not very financially astute, they ought to ask themselves (if they are claiming superior financial acumen) why they didn't invest heavily in gold themselves (assuming they didn't, of course).30 Year Challenge : To be 30 years older. Equity : Don't know, don't care much. Savings : That's asking for ridicule.0
