Help needed with power input on Toshiba Laptop!

My Laptop is the Toshiba Equium A60-692 P4 518/XP HE/25. Unfortunately the bit where you place the power adapter on the back on the laptop is loose and i keep having to move it around in order for it to work. I have no warranty left and was wondering if this job is difficult to fix?

The first link has the relevant part, but does anyone know how easy it is to replace these things yourself?

  • Provided that you have got a few screwdrivers, a bit of patience, the correct part and a soldering iron with a bit of solder, it should be straightforward (unless the motherboard is damaged).
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

I did it with an old laptop my brother used to have. As long as you can source a part (might have to go to RS unless you manage to find it at Maplin, or perhaps order it from a place that provides laptop components) and are comfortable with a soldering iron it should be ok. Just make sure you are careful when you take the machine apart - keep notes etc to make sure you know how to put it back together again and don't lose any screws or put them in the wrong holes. And an anti-static wriststrap is a good idea.

  • I’ve repaired this on a couple of toshibas, a sony and an ibm. Only one of the Toshibas needed a new connector, the others had just broken the solder connection to the board and just needed re-soldering. Getting them apart can be “interesting”

  • Actually, getting them apart is relatively easy, it’s the putting back together that is hard….lots stuffed into a small space and must go back in the right order

It’s not rocket science but it is hard (and fiddly)
  • My Toshiba laptop - a Satellite - had this problem. PC World replaced the motherboard under my insurance scheme but I still have problems with the connector. At present it is being held in with blutack!

This is the first Toshiba computer I have ever had - and it will most definitely be the last. My old Hitachi laptop is now 8 years old and it is still going strong, including the battery.

Can anyone recommend any of these online laptop repair companies, has anyone used any of the ones in the second post?
