Jet2 Seat Selection

Anyone know a way around this please. Travelling on my own. Don't like paying for "extras"! Usually when I fly on my own with unallocated seats, I never rush to board as I prefer an aisle seat and it is always easy to find the odd one as many people are travelling in pairs.

Booked as single traveller on a Jet2 flight in a couple of weeks.
Logged in today to check-in online and after loading my passport details, it took me to the optional book-a-seat-for-a-fee page.

However, the website says "We have reserved you a seat at no extra charge". Not an odd single seat, of which there are several available, but a middle seat where the 2 seats either side are still available too, which is silly because it could end up having to split 2 people travelling together and I don't particularly want to spend 5 hours as the jam in the sandwich :o

I can't change this to an aisle seat without having to pay £3.99.

If I wait til I get to the airport, I have to pay for check-in.

The only thing I can think of is to wait until the day before and check in then, but then there's no guarantee and any other options will likely have gone then .

ETA ........just had a thought to try repeating the initial check in process and see what it throws up each time.

Nope, repeating the online check-in process doesn't work either. Seat 41E has my name on it, presumably unless someone pays to reserve that block of seats.

£3.99 isn't much, so I suppose I'll pay it, it's just the principle!

Bronnie I don't have any suggestion how you can change it fee free, but the cynic in me wonders if Jet2's system is programmed to do this to 'encourage' ;) people to pay the fee to get a more desirable seat. It makes no sense at all to allocate a middle seat to a solo traveller - unless of course the flight is completely full and all other seats are taken up. But that clearly isn't the case here from what you've written.
Having worked in the airline industry previously I know that the middle seat is almost universally despised. I hate middle seats so much that I'd end up paying now to book myself an aisle.

As it stands now, a couple could possibly be split up with you in the middle of them. If that does happen, I'm sure the couple wouldn't mind giving you the aisle seat so that they can sit together. Of course, if there are three solo travellers on the row, it's unlikely that either of the two other passengers will want to swap with you. This must be very maddening for you.

Dawning, I'm absolutely certain it's a ploy! The front rows up to row 23 are pretty much reserved now, apart from several odd aisle seats. My seat allocation is bang in the middle of a bank of rows further back that are still fully available to reserve (10 days of online check-in left). It does not make any sense.

I will pay it for the comfort factor, however when these companies pull these kinds of stunts, their card is marked forever in my book! I will exact my revenge somehow! :rotfl:

I wonder if you are a couple or a family if they allocate you seats together; surely they wouldn't be mean enough to allocate separate seats to make you pay to extra to sit together? Would they????

Yes, I'd end up paying for it too. And their card would be marked indeed! I'd be very
I've just seen your other post which I missed when I was writing mine. Not sure what aircraft is operating , but 41E is a long way back so thats another reason to pay to sit further forward.

Are you travelling back with Jet2? If so it will be interesting to see if they allocate you a middle seat on the return sector also.

I think the front and the back of the aircraft usually get to the destination at roughly the same time ;)

The jet2 system normally allocates the 'next available seat' when checking in online without paying for a seat, however i know that now and again you can get glitches. When i checked in online i got allocated a seat, and when i processed the wifes check in details (on same booking) she was sat elsewhere on the aircraft for some reason. Ok, i thought it was fine, but ended up just calling the contacts i had and was all changed over.

As far as row 41 goes, the B757's are numbered upto 42, so next to back row.

I don't think 41E has your name on it unless there is nothing else left. If you wait a few days and someone else has checked in in the mean time you'll be offered a different seat.

    Hi!

"Glitch" or deliberate ploy to extract another £7.98 per person? lol!

There are loads of seats still available to reserve on both legs of the flight from around Row 23 back, but there are also a few random single aisle seats further forward, so on a "next available seat" system, presumably I would have been neatly slottted in to complete the booking of those rows.

My original booking was back in March and they are still selling seats on the flight today (price has dropped a bit actually). Despite this, my return flight "free " seat allocation is 42F. Surely that seat should be specially reserved for the obligatory drunk to slump in!!!
  • I flew with Jet2 on my own last month and I had exactly the same experience, I was allocated a middle seat on both journeys.

At least with the 757 you have more room than the 737, so it looks like it happens with them.

Mind you at least you don't have all the pushing and shoving you get with Ryanair.
If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.

So what did you do , pay to pick a different one or did you turn up and see what happened.
