Halifax bank are useless !

I dont know how it happened as im very carefull online with personal details, but somehow someone managed to spend £970.00 using my Paypal account at 0300 in the morning on the 21st of june. I reported this to Paypal at 06.00 same day. Also informed the bank (HALIFAX) who cancelled my debit card that is registered to Paypal.

HALIFAX said that funds had not been processed from my account yet but could not stop the transaction. so it was processed and im now £892.48 out of pocket (remaining £77.53 was taken from my Paypal balance) so total fraud was for £970.00

Any how, at the speed of light the very next day a letter came from HALIFAX saying they are not responsible as i freely gave my details to Paypal and that i should contact them directly, Which i had done already.

Paypal say that the transaction will be investigated and will be on hold till the 29th June while this happens. The 29th June arrives and Paypal decide that the transaction was indeed fraudulent and refund my Paypal account with th £77.52 and send a refund of £892.48 to my debit card/current account.

The refund of £77.52 is imediately payed into my Paypal account and the balance reflected this. The problem is where is the £892.48 ?

Paypal say they have sent it and it depends on HALIFAX crediting procedures as to when it will apear on my account, HALIFAX say if Paypal have refunded it it will appear imediately !

Just who is telling the truth and when will i get my money back ?

    Is paypal not normaly a up to 7 days to hit an account, I would be gtateful your getting it back !

    I use Paypal a lot to take and process payments and when i withdraw money from Paypal it normally only takes three days for it to show in the receiving account.
  • Halifax are pretty useless, I split with my ex partner and we had a joint bank account, couldn't speak to my ex partner but finally got solicitor to pass on my forms to close account and take my name off it as he was using the account and getting in to debt, my ex partner did sign the form to take responsibility, which was good, but handed the form in to Halifax and they lost it!!, it was then an absoloute struggle to take my name off the account again which ended up in the Ombudsmen getting involved, stupidly I didn't close the other account that I had with them which was in just my name, and was using my individual account with them for a while, they then ended up really messing up by sending my bank statements to an address i've never lived at or had any connection to whatsoever, needless to say I have since closed my accounts with them and want nothing to do with them and using another bank now. Sorry for the rant, but they are pretty useless

    Paypal crediting can take from 3-7 days to show. Chill.

    are you withdrawing the money onto the cancelled card o the new card?
    Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?
  • I transferred all the money from the old account to the new account with the bank that I am using now, did this before I closed it, luckily I don't usually set up direct debits so wasn't too much of a hassle to switch.

    Have PAYPAL sent the monies back to the Halifax by using your long 16 digit card number? If so this may explain a delay as the card number is not valid. You say Halifax is useless yet they advised you within 24hrs of their decision on your fraud investigation. Whilst it is upsetting and stressful losing a large amount of money it is not the Halifax's fault that the fraud had been committed.

    You need to verify with Payal how they have refunded you.
