Completion Date set - when to contact various utilities?

We have our completion date set now for mod July. When do we contact the various utilities about stopping old supply/starting new one?

Gas
Electricity
Council Tax
Phone
Broadband
TV License

I've left out certain thing such as Home Insurance (this runs out at about the same time as we move and we have already arranged insurance on the new place) and car tax/insurance as I can take care of those.

Thanks for any replies!

Not before you've exchanged contracts (not sure if you have or not yet). Remember to take meter readings when you move and phone these through. Some things like broadband force things like 'four weeks' notice', so bear that in mind. Mine was okay when I moved and actually took offence and said they'd be disconnecting me the next day and that they couldn't wait until my move date. Wasn't worth arguing as had internet access by other means.

What hazyjo said, pretty much. Don't arrange anything until you have exchanged contracts!
With regard to stopping services, for example our electricity+gas just said they preferred at least 7 days' notice but do check notice periods especially for things like phone and broadband - OH 'forgot' to check the Sky notice period:mad: (we had phone, TV and broadband from them) and we ended up with a 2 week overrun, luckily our buyer was a trustworthy sort and didn't run up a £££ phone bill :D Inform the providers before you move. Take meter readings on the last day and get these to the providers so they can send your closing bill.

Our old council had an online form for council tax which we did after exchange of contracts on our sale.

We were slightly disorganised with starting services, but just did it after we had moved in - took meter readings on first day, then over the next couple of days rang the various companies. I guess as long as our readings corresponded with the previous owner's, they were perfectly happy. With council tax, we emailed the council after we had broadband installed, they had no problem with this and just sent a backdated bill.

Thanks hazyjo and shar46y - I should have said we have exchanged. I 'phoned the broadbad providers as I suspected I may have to give a month's notice and they confirmed that they would disconnect immediately, so I could phone again just before we leave (don't want to be without internet - think my wife would kill me if she can't access Facebook!).

Will definitely take meter readings on last day!

Will also contact other suppliers now and see how much notice they need (as in 'require' rather than 'would like' ;-))
