Change lead pipe now?

House is empty, floorboards are easy to lift.
Would it make sense to get the lead pipe from the street to my kitchen replaced?
Stopc*ck in street for my house is about 35ft from my front door, and new internal stopc*ck would be about 10ft inside my front door in a straight run.
Any idea what this would cost to do, and are one of the bigger companies best to go with? As they will have "moling" gear.
Is "moling" more expensive than trench work. I was hoping it would be cheaper because it's quicker.
Any advice or information gratefully received:o

Was a 40 a day smoker for 20 years.
Decided to give up, and haven't had a fag for 12 years.
Halfway through losing six stone.
Looking forward to early retirement.

Call you local Water Supplier. Yes it should be cheaper.

Moling is cheaper and the preferred method but not always possible or practical.
I'd do the work now if I were you while the house is empty.
As for pricing, I'm afraid I can't comment on that. You have been reading.....another magnificent post by garethgas :beer:0 -
not as cheap as digging the trench yourself and laying the pipe. letting the final connection to be done by the water company.Get some gorm.0

Perhaps at the very least you could lay the new pipe under the house ready for future connection?0

we did it ourselves. water board were very helpful, gave advice, came out to inspect then later connected pipe outside. they were strict on the depth of the pipe though.0

I understand the DIY approach, but i don't have the physical capabilities to do it myself.
I'd looked at United Utilities, but they appear to be up North, i'm in the Three Rivers, Herts area. Was a 40 a day smoker for 20 years.

Moling is a better method rather than digging trenches, you only need a couple of holes to the required depth to pass the mole through. Some companies start at £60 per meter but you can get it cheaper, your local Water Authority should have a list on their website of approved installers call and get some quotes,0
