I went to Egypt in Sep 06. I would take only a little Egyptian money and change your Sterling while your out there as it's a better rate and really easy to do. We had a problem with changing Travellers cheques though as our hotel couldn't change them and we had to either Travel to the nearest town or find a different hotel that could.
When going to Sharm El Sheikh, the staff are all male (with the exception of Animation teams) We found this a little intimidating at first as it was just me and my friend (we're both female)
We went to Cairo and visited the pyramids at Giza which are literally a stones throw from Cairo. These are wonderful but the sellers can get a bit annoying after a little while. The Egyptian museum is very impressive but only a couple of the rooms have air conditioning. We also had to hand over our cameras at the enterance so we couldn't get any photos which was a little dissapointing!
The toilets was the thing we found the strangest. While the toilets are usually always clean toilet paper isn't provided as standard in the stalls. You can get a couple of sheets from an attendent but this us usually for a price. We took a roll of paper from our hotel around with us just in case, we also found it reassuring to carry anti-bacterial hand wipes/gel.

You could have paid a small fee (about a £1) & taken your camera in with you to use. They don't allow flashes in the museum, so they would have taped over the flash. It is bright enough to take photos in there, mine came out fine.
It's amazing how close the pyramids are to Cairo, in pictures you think they are in the middle of the dessert, well they are but wo=ith Cairo right behind them.
The thing with the toilet paper is not uncommon, I have encountered this in Turkey too, away from the resorts. Perhaps it's how the toilet attendant earns her money (that's just a guess). But it's only pennies they charge.
