Recruitment agency consultant avoided me

I signed up with this agency three weeks ago, every week I been trying to hold of this consultant but every time I ring, she is away from her desk. So I leave a message and the person I am talking to says she will get back to me, she hasn't. I am going to send an angry email to her.

  • Leave a message for her that you have been offered an interview through another agency.
She may just phone you up to ask "who with"?

an angry email to who? the one you can't get hold of or the one who might not be passing your message on?

Although what good is an angry email going to do? if you piddle her off she's not going to put you to the top of her 'find a job' list; you're just going to go into the 'too much hassle' file and stay there. If you send her a nice mail she might be more inclined to come back to you.

Agencies are rarely worth expending any effort on, they really are mostly useless - just move on to another one if they treat you like this.

The agency doesn't work for you, they work for the companies that you work for.

If a recruitment pimp wants to get hold of you they will. If they have no work for you they won't waste their time by speaking to you.

Sign up with loads of agencies and eventually you will get work. If you show up on time and are friendly then you'll get more work. If you annoy the agency then they will never put you forward for a job unless they are desperate.

If you do it, you will cut yourself out of every job she is recruiting for and possibly all jobs with that agency. If you need to be told that, you are not cut out for most jobs where you are dealing with people.

  • Having worked in the industry I know they'll do that all day long. Time is money for them. Often they don't see the long term picture and you might not be suitable for vacncies right now so they won't bother replying to you. Writing an agressive email prob won't help. There's so many jobsites and agancies out there, I'd leave it for a few weeks and spend your time finding other agencies to work with.

I simply could not agree more. As much to my surprise as possibly to DVardysShadow's!

Matt, every single post you put on this boarrd is about how angry you are that nobody recognises your amazing talents, nobody gives you a job, and nobody gives you a fair chance. If you are half as "entitled" in real life as you come across on these threads, then I cannot in all honesty says that I am surprised that nobody will employ you. Get a reality check. You have next to no employment experience, a moderate first degree, a poor attitude, and a tough world out there. You will have to do what everybody else has to do - moderate your aspirations to get a foot on the ladder, and then work damned hard to get somewhere. Stop treating other people, whether employers or agency staff, like they owe you a job. They don't, and they won't appreciate it when you act like they do. It's a buyers market, and you can't afford to be biting the hand you would like to feed you!
  • Recruitment consultants will only call you if there's something in it for them - i.e if they have a job you're a perfect match for or if you are the hiring manager and may have a position you want them to recruit for. Don't waste your energy getting mad about it.

Agencies work purely for themselves, not the candidates nor the potential employers. To be honest, just the same as estate agents and many other "agents".

I've been lied to by agents when looking for jobs. I've seen the evidence of massive over selling (and changing peoples CVs) when trying to hire someone.

There are better ones out there and they're a necessary evil when recruiting for specialist roles unfortunately.
