A friend of mine recently got a job as a result of registering with an agency SEVEN YEARS previously. He had heard absolutely nothing from them in the intervening period, but presumably they got a vacancy in, plugged it into their database, and it matched with his CV.

I would imagine that, had he sent them a stroppy email at any point because he felt they weren't doing enough to find him work, he would simply have been removed from their database and heard nothing, ever.

Frustrating as it is, you sometimes have to look at the bigger picture.

If it's any consolation to all those recruiter-haters out there, I have been in the position of being on the other side of the fence, in my HR job we get called many times a day by recruitment agencies and in the end one day I couldn't take it any more and pretended that I was someone else and that 'I' had gone on holiday. That was before I got reception to field all cold callers and only put through the agencies we actually had any jobs with. Couldn't agree more that if you were to phone up pretending to be from HR with a job available they'd be on to you like flies round s*it but that's because ultimately it is the employer who's providing the scarce resource (the job) and you as one of many many jobseekers are unfortunately not a scarce resource. If you know you don't want to work with that agency again, then you have nothing to lose by writing an angry email, but if you think you may need them again in the future to look for work for you, you may have to just suck it up I'm afraid.
  • Something i've found that might amuse you is if you google the name of the agent and see what comes up. Also type the recruitment agency in after their name and you might get to see their CV on their Inked-in page, afterall they will be whoring themselves around the internet looking for a new job themselves due to the risk of getting fired at any moment due to the lack of jobs out there - irony, eh.

No doubt they'll have some pretentious name like Sky or something so they'll jump straight to the top of the google list and you'll be able to chuckle about how they got a 2:2 from Leeds Met in marketing or some cobblers. It'll make you feel better.
