Your portfolio- STICKY SUGGESTION

Would it be a good idea to have a a diary type area where people can put up their portfolios and show their gains and losses, and their opinions to why they go a particular way? Of course this cannot be seen as advice but as an educational fun tool.

Although not a frequent poster to this forum that sounds like a nice idea, I'm currently dipping my toes in to investments and it would be a good learning tool to see peoples methods and outcomes. I've got to the point now where I'm avoiding asking "how" and "what does this mean" questions, because I dont seem to ever get much of a response.0

At the moment we enjoy a very relaxed environment here where we can discuss investments (perhaps with the exception of some shiny metals) quite freely. The more prominent such discussions are, the harder it is for MSE to turn a blind eye to the occasional posts that stray over the line of what can and can't be interpreted as advice.0

Any advice that I may or may not be given via this forum will be researched and validated by my self, I've never been one to take what I hear as gospel.0

I agree with you, however there is nothing wrong with expressed opinions, surely? I.E you think this is best ("A") and I this this is best ("B"), anyone reading it would (I would expect) go off and read for themselves.0

The board tolerates that as long as certain language is avoided. Comparisons as such are ok but when people start asking outright how they should invest or start making it clear they are copying others who may have a totally different risk profile or understanding then it gets risky.
You also have to cater for those people who will not research or take responsibility for themselves. [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM]I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

...or the threads where 'opinions' are expressed about certain shares or fashionable market sectorsLiving for tomorrow might mean that you survive the day after.
It is always different this time. The only thing that is the same is the outcome.
Portfolios are like personalities - one that is balanced is usually preferable.

I can't help thinking that there are other established sites catering for that sort of thing. eg the motley fool site for stock-picking, or others specialising in funds and things.0

I personally have no problem with threads that give the 'heads up' on possible undervalued shares as long as they are backed up by genuine links to further reasearch e.g. broker reports/comments, articles.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0
