I don't know anything about this camera, but it can be had cheaper direct from FujiFilm as a refurbished model (12 month warranty) using code P10fEB15. £46.48 delivered.

unless you are planning to print out large copies or do heavy cropping, megapixel counts aren't overly important.

Oh 'eck, I thought they did.
I just want to take 'normal' photos, holidays, family, friends etc.
a bit of cropping but no large pics. Some video on it would be good or should i just go for a good mobile phone with a good camera.

So what do I look for.

Thanks for the info on the refurb ones, but I really want a new one.

    Any other recommendations please.

Agreed. For family snaps anything in and around 10MP is more than sufficient. A budget 14MP camera like this one is overkill. My instant thoughts are: low quality sensor, massive file sizes.

Basically if you buy a 14MP camera at the bargain price of £65 then it is probably as good as a £65 camera at 10 or 12MP but will fill up your memory card faster than you can get through the battery :D The end result is limited space for pictures on your camera, long waits between transfering from camera to pc.

It's a modern day box brownie - nothing special, but it'll take decent snaps. For the money you get a lot of bells and whistles, including 720 video. Fully auto, no manual control but it has scene modes and face detection.

Not a camera for someone who wants to learn the ins and outs of photography, but you could take it to the beach and at that price it wouldn't be the end of the world if you dropped it in a pool.

    There are some details here.

(BTW, nothing wrong with 5MP. Some of my best ever pics were taken with a 4MP Olympus. It's not the size that matters....)

The better half wanted a nice easy to use camera of her own so we chose a FUJIFILM JX530 it does just what she wants and when she gets more used to it its got movie mode as well. To add you can alter the megapixels per picture from 14 million to 0.3 million which equates to 14495 pictures with the 4gb card in her camera.

    :)

I wouldn't set resolution to 0.3MP unless to want all your pics to look like they were taken on a security camera with a dirty lens!

You're very much at the budget end of the market. Try looking here for some good buys - the prices are in dollars, but you can find UK prices easily enough. The Fujifilm XP10 looks pretty good - £90 at Amazon. You could drop that one in a pool and it would probably survive unscathed. You could also take a look at Fuji's Z70 and Z90 models: review of the Z70 here.
